چکیده

Multiple antennas can greatly increase the data rate and reliability of a wireless communica-tion link in a fading environment. It is well-known that unitary matrices can be used to designdi erentially modulated space-time constellations. These constellations have a particularly e -cient description if they form a nite group under matrix multiplication. In this paper we willshow how to compute parameters of such groups crucial for their use as space-time constellations, using only the character table of the group. Since character tables for many groups are known andtabulated, this method could be used to quickly test, for a given group, which of its irreduciblerepresentations can be used to design good unitary space-time constellations. We demonstrateour method by computing the eigenvalues of all the irreducible representations of the speciallinear group SL2(Fq ) over a nite prime eld Fq of odd characteristic, and study in detail theperformance of a particular 8-dimensional representation of SL2(F17 ).

Unitary Constellation Design with Application to Space-Time Coding

Recently unitary space-time modulation has been presented to give a solution to more reliable multiple antennas communications. Good-performing unitary constellations are required to be designed to fit into this system. Although the basic principle is well understood and certain criteria and their transformations for designing such constellations have been presented, we don’t have a general met...

An Application of theBruhat Decomposition to the Design of Full Diversity Unitary Space-Time Codes

A full diversity constellation, that is, a set of unitary matrices whose differences have nonzero determinant, is a design criterion for codes with good performance using differential unitary space-time modulation. Recently, fixed-point free groups and the infinite group SU(2) have been used to produce full diversity unitary group constellations. In this paper, we present a new Bruhat decomposi...

Unitary signal constellations for differential space--Time modulation with two transmit antennas: Parametric codes, optimal designs, and bounds

Differential space–time modulation has been recently proposed in the literature for multiple-antenna systems over Rayleigh-fading channels, where neither the transmitter nor the receiver knows the fading coefficients. For the practical success of differential space–time modulation, it has been shown critical to design unitary space–time signal constellations with large diversity product which i...

Unitary Space-Time Group Codes: Diversity Sums From Character Tables

Diversity sum, which is calculated from the Frobenius norm of the difference of two distinct elements in a signal constellation, is the significant parameter to predict a unitary group constellation having a good performance in low SNR. In this paper, we propose a method to compute the diversity sum of a unitary group constellation using a character table. Some examples of using our method to d...

Unitary Space-Time Constellation Designs From Group Codes

We propose new unitary space-time constellation designs with high diversity products. Our Hamiltonian and product constellations are based on Slepian’s group codes, and can be used for any number of transmitter antennas M and any data rate R. Our Hamiltonian constellations achieve the theoretical upper bound of diversity product in the case where M is even and the cardinality of the signal cons...
